I Can't Keep My Pit...

WE ARE NOT A RESCUE!

We can't take your dog!

We get about 20-30 calls & emails PER WEEK from folks that can't keep their Pit Bull.

Typical reasons are the economy, housing problems, and behavior problems.

So what should you do?  Can BCBC help?

BCBC would encourage you to work through the problem and keep your dog.  It's a part of your family.

  • Redo your budget and give up unnecessary things.
  • Look harder for a place to live with your dog.
  • Let BCBC work with you to modify your dog's behavior.

It is said that 1 of every 600 Pit Bulls finds a dedicated forever home.  Please try to make your dog that 1.

If you are still unable to keep you pet then you honestly have very few options.

  • Surrender it to the Humane Society - it will have to pass a standard behavior assesment.  If it can't it's not a breed ambassador and other options should be explored.
  • Try to find a rescue.  There's one in Madison and a few in northern IL.  They are all completely overwhelmed with dogs and will probably not be able to help but you can try.
  • Try to rehome on your own - Pit Bulls are the most misunderstood breed of dog in the world so there are fewer potential homes for Pit Bulls than probably any other breed of dog.  Yet Pits are the most discarded.  Good luck finding a good home that won't abuse, neglect, or give up the dog within the first 2 years.

Sorry for the grim outlook but it is the reality of the current situation.
