"Pit Bull" is NOT a breed of dog -

It is a term used to describe 3 breeds of dog:

• American Pit Bull Terrier
• American Staffordshire Terrier
• Staffordshire Bull Terrier

For hundreds of years high prey drive and high pain threshold

were bred into the breeds.

For hundreds of years human aggression was bred OUT of the

breeds.  Dogs that exhibited even the smallest amount of

aggression toward humans were typically killed. 

A love and respect for humans was specifically bred INTO the

pit bull lines.  Pit Bulls love and need people to be happy.

Common Pit Bull MYTHS

1. Pit Bulls have locking jaws.  This is simply false!  Any veterinarian can verify that's impossible.
2. Pit Bulls are born mean.     Not true!  Pit Bulls, like ANY breed are not born mean or bad.  HUMANS make dogs mean or bad.  Especially Pit Bulls who are willing to do ANYTHING for their masters. Any breed will become mean through lack of training, neglect, abuse, or irresponsible ownership.
3. Animal aggression turns into human aggression.  NO!     Animal aggression and human aggression are two completely different behaviors and are in no way linked.
