"Pit Bull" is NOT a breed of dog -

It is a term used to describe 3 breeds of dog:

• American Pit Bull Terrier
• American Staffordshire Terrier
• Staffordshire Bull Terrier

• "Pit Bulls" are the most misunderstood, abused, overbred and neglected breed of dog.
• There are an estimated 53,000,000 dogs in the U.S., approx. 20% are Pit Bulls- or about 10,600,000 pit bulls in our society.
• The average number of people killed by a Pit Bull each year is 3.
• Each year, more than 2,000 children in the U.S. are killed by their parents or guardians. A child is more than 800 times more likely to be killed by their caretaker than by a Pit Bull. 
• Approximately 1,250,000 pit bulls are euthanized per year. Therefore - it is at least a HALF MILLION TIMES MORE LIKELY that a Pit Bull will be killed by a HUMAN than the other way around.
• It can be estimated that for every Pit Bull who kills, there are 10.5 MILLION that DON'T!
• Common Pit Bull breeds standard traits are: Loyality, Intelligence, Extremely Eager to Please, Athletic, Extremely Affectionate and Unconditional Love of all people big and small...

A love and respect for humans was specifically bred INTO the

pit bull lines.  Pit Bulls love and need people to be happy.

Common Pit Bull MYTHS

1. Pit Bulls have locking jaws.  This is simply false!  Any veterinarian can verify that's impossible.
2. Pit Bulls are born mean.     Not true!  Pit Bulls, like ANY breed are not born mean or bad.  HUMANS make dogs mean or bad.  Especially Pit Bulls who are willing to do ANYTHING for their masters. Any breed will become mean through lack of training, neglect, abuse, or irresponsible ownership.
3. Animal aggression turns into human aggression.  NO!     Animal aggression and human aggression are two completely different behaviors and are in no way linked.
